Museum and/or High Castle
Baroque and more
Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Bavarian Baroque at the Füssen Museum! In the impressive rooms of the former Benedictine monastery of St. Mang, magnificent halls such as the imperial hall, the monastery library and the chapter house await you. An absolute highlight is the Füssen Dance of Death in the baroque St. Anne's Chapel: this oldest dance of death cycle in Bavaria was created in 1602, when the plague was raging on the Lech, and still captivates visitors today with its impressive depictions.
Or experience the impressive “Hohes Schloss” (Castle) above the old town of Füssen! Once built as the summer residence of the prince-bishops of Augsburg, it is now one of the largest and best-preserved late Gothic castles in Swabia. The colorful illusion paintings that adorn the facades and bring the historic ambience of the castle to life are particularly eye-catching. Today, the works of art of the Bavarian State Gallery and the Municipal Gallery of paintings await you in the magnificent rooms.
