The lakes in the Faulenbach valley

A special feature of the Faulenbach Valley are its numerous lakes. The Faulenbach lakes are strung together like pearls on a necklace. Nature lovers and those seeking relaxation can enjoy the different waters of the Mittersee, Obersee, Gipsbruchweiher, Alatsee and Gipsloch. The Obersee, with an area of around 7.2 hectares and a depth of 9 meters, is one of the smaller bodies of water in the area, but enjoys great popularity, especially thanks to the inviting natural outdoor pool.

The upper lake

The outdoor pool offers numerous attractions: from the bathing jetty to a 7.5m high diving platform, various slides, a separate non-swimmers' area, spacious sunbathing lawns and a children's playground. A beach volleyball court invites you to take part in sporting activities, while changing rooms and a kiosk ensure the perfect swimming trip.

The tree-framed Mittersee offers an inviting swimming area and complements the region's offerings. Leisurely walks around the lakes are very popular, and a detour to Lake Alatsee offers additional recreational opportunities. The idyllic landscape and the wide range of leisure activities make the Faulenbach Valley a real insider tip.

Natural spectacle in purple

The gypsum mining that took place in Bad Faulenbach until the beginning of the 20th century created what is now known as the Gipsbruchweiher, an artificial lake that makes a name for itself with its recurring natural spectacle. When the purple bacteria in the lake bloom, the lake - as the name suggests - turns purple.
